My graduation design model display.
Opportunity:
When I was a junior in 2018, I was whipped by the industry for several months. I had decided to change my career since my graduation project, and I also hoped to open my career path through unique work. I was very lucky and grateful to the teacher who led my graduation project at that time. At that time, I did an open speculative design project, using narrative to break away from the traditional boundaries of architectural disciplines. In the end, I was also lucky to become an excellent work and was retained by the college in the teaching building. It was disseminated by many media and loved by the audience at the graduation exhibition.
Summary:
First, it is very important to choose a topic and a mentor that suits you, and at the same time, stick to your own views at the right time. Especially for students of art academies, there is only one chance in college to truly express your thoughts.
Second, I treat the graduation project as a "business". I first determined that my target group is the general public, and then the industry insiders, because I chose a risky opening method. I could not predict whether I could get the approval of the judges in the early stage (of course, it is definitely important to do this well). I hope that through the dissemination of the graduation exhibition, I can open up more directions. Therefore, from the opening to the final results, I have to have a framework from the beginning. If the last step of "marketing" is not done well, then the model will fall apart. So I basically grasp this point. If the project collapses in the middle, I have to maximize my results at the exhibition site.
First cross-border work:
At that time, a leading architectural landscape company found me, but I declined, including giving up the qualification for guaranteed postgraduate study in my school. Although I have left the architectural landscape industry, it is still related to space design, such as stage, installation, lighting, art display, banquet, etc. It is also because the thinking of graduation project was excavated. At the beginning, there were quite a lot of project resources. Unfortunately, less than a year later, yq appeared, and it had a great impact on this type of industry.
Summary:
First, why did you choose this kind of industry? Because students from art academies were still popular in some industries with aesthetic requirements at that time. Moreover, I had many ideals of becoming a great designer after graduation. In addition, the project cycle of this kind of industry was short, so I could quickly accumulate projects, and there was indeed a certain bonus period in those years.
Second, from the perspective of business thinking, resources and environment, I valued learning outside of design more. For example, I had many opportunities to deal with customers, talk about plans, learn to sell my own designs, control profit costs, etc. Compared with classmates with the same resume and design background, I had more of this kind of experience at that time.
